Hang in there Victoria!

BOARDS & BIKES — 12/05/2015 — by Christian B.

The Reef-way of looking at marketing seems oddly sexist in 2015. But I must admit I enjoyed it very much when I was a braindead teen – so who am I to judge? Despite of all the whether-nots and creepy ass-gazer perspectives featured in this video, Victoria is a rad surfer competing on the womens’ world surf league longboard tour.

For more info read this interview which I bold-facedly stole from another webiste:

(I do not reference the website, beacause they use smileys in their text… cringe.)

When and where did you start surfing?
Surfing came naturally to me. I started surfing at age 4 on a small French island named Oleron Island thanks to my parents who are surfers themselves. I grew up between New Caledonia and Reunion Island, which is where I started longboarding.

What is it that you love about surfing and the ocean?
I learned how to swim before I could walk. At a young age I discovered the beauty and all the treasures of the ocean. The best part of surfing is being surrounded by the infinite beauty of the waves and people I love. No words can describe this feeling. The ocean will always be my favourite place where I rejuvenate myself.

Do you have a session that stands out as your most memorable?
Every session is unforgettable, but my most memorable would be on Reunion Island at Saint-Leu. The waves were pumping and I surfed with my boyfriend for almost 5 hours. It was such a beautiful day and I will never forget it.

My biggest dream is to be able to do it again one day.

What is your favourite travel destination / surf break?
My favourite destination is Australia. I’m so in love with Noosa. However, there are a lot more surfbreaks out there for me to discover and I just can’t wait to travel the world a little bit more and build a list of many favourite destinations 🙂

How did you get into modelling and what do you love about it?
I got into modelling at 16 for Roxy and I’m so happy for the opportunities it has given me. For me, modelling is all about being healthy, active, smiling and travelling. Plus, I have the chance to mix surfing with it so I couldn’t be more stoked about my job!

Besides surfing and modelling, what are your major passions?
Surfing is my major passion. I try to be in the ocean for a few hours a day. However, I also love drawing and playing guitar. That completes me I guess..

Who/ What inspires you in life and your work?
In terms of surfing, Kassia Meador is a true inspiration to me. Her spirit, her surfing, everything about her is amazing. My parents are my biggest inspiration in life. My mom is a really talented artist and my dad is hard worker. My boyfriend Tristan is also a major inspiration. He gives me the motivation to never give up on the things I want or love.

What is the best thing about surfing on the women’s longboard tour?
I surfed for the first time on the women’s longboard tour two years ago and it has been a dream come true. I started surfing competively 4 years ago and I would never have thought that I’d be surfing with all the girls I admired just two years later. It’s an amazing experience every time we are all together. We are all friends while at the same time competitors. It’s really motivating and we have so much fun!

What can we expect to see from Victoria Vergara in the next 12 months?
I’m going to New-York in 26 days for modelling. I really want to pursue this career so I’m going to start working with some big agencies. I’m really excited! I also want to win the Women’s World Longboard Championship so I will keep surfing as much as I can. I’m planning to make some videos this year about my surfing and my travels so stay tuned!
